We are taught by society that to be openly happy with ourselves is arrogant; to be attractive as women we should be modest, honestly or falsely so. However there’s a double standard here; many of the most attractive men are arrogant in one way or another. This is seen as acceptable for men, yet not for women. This probably explains the amount of teenage girls with low self-esteem. As women we are bombarded with images of stick-thin models who are supposedly 'beautiful', suggesting any larger is unattractive, yet it's seen as acceptable, attractive even for a man to be chubby.
