I'm living in self-imposed bachelor squalor. One would think it easier to keep a much smaller space clean, but it isn't. First of all, I have no room to put anything. If I bring home a single piece of paper, it becomes a major project to find its proper place. And my upright vacuum cleaner, which whizzed and sanctified so efficiently in my old house, is far too large and clunky for such a tiny apartment, and its roar completely demoralizes the cats. Ergo I am living amongst unruly piles. And dust bunnies the size of the former Soviet Union.
