We imagine romances like
the ones we see in movies
and read about in novels,
the great and the tragic,
those worth writing about,
but the fact of the matter is that
none of our romances are ever truly great
--no, not these days, not anymore--
or perhaps we're simply frightened
of living up to the dreams
we're supposedly so hungry for--
or perhaps we've just grown so tired
or lazy
that we expect it
to fall,
fully formed and vibrant,
into our laps,
but there is a catch:
life's neither a romance nor a tragedy
(like fiction);
it's both.
