Why don't we just burn them
to the ground,
these bridges
we have worked so hard to raise,
to span these chasms between people?

Once the world is connected
by fiber optic cable
and wireless internet,
and anyone who wants
can view the up-to-the-minute logs
of where you've been and what you've done,
call you at any time,
we won't need to build bridges.

We will be superficially connected,
virtually,
always available,
so why forge on in the ways of the old world?

There are already so few left,
then what's the loss
of another one or two?
