Note the use of ‘intended’ rather than ‘guaranteed’. Another piece of A02 (criticise and evaluate) is that CBT makes the assumption that abnormality arises from the way one perceives and interprets an event. This could lead to the client experiencing guilt; they might feel it is their fault that they have a mental illness. This differs from the biological and psychoanalytic models, both of which believe abnormality is beyond the individuals’ control.
