The first. Our need to establish a difference between nothing and one. Over and over again. A need for renewal, revival, removal from nothing. A single one has a higher valiency, more apt to attract another into a similar orbit. Can one stay one forever ? Singularly the only so far that has appeared out of nothing! A virtual loner living a meaningful existence, simply because it exists. Now possibilities are unleashed,... there can be more,... an untold number. All because a door was opened, to allow one to exist. The first one through might assist others... there could be growth...

Labour Day. A break from paid work for some... A bit of overtime for others... A chance to toil outside the workplace, for those whose monkey is responsibility breaking their back... An air show booms sonically overhead... The sky forced into business with daredevils, paid in pollution, scratched with screaming steel... I'm most thrilled with the butterfly that bounces along, much closer to my level in the stratosphere, gently painted with ticklish colours... One last moment to soak up the summer... a bittersweet ending, the eve of a new cycle. The garden is tired. The summer moon waning. Reticent warmth

Creative constipation. Stupid self-discipline... Stupid style constraints... Stupid selfish suck who whines about having to write 100 stinking words... Oi! The moping and the whinging!!! When enthusiasm goes bad... Isn't this just like the little kid with the crossed arms who's feeling all grumpy and nubbly, and just wants to inflict their dark little cloud on everyone else ? Poop on all of you ! Why are you even reading this ? Don't you have anything better to do ?? Stop fondling your mouse and go make some real contact!!

Civilization.
A car bomb explodes in Kabul, killing 22 people who were guilty of buying food in a market. George W. talks tough, pushing war speak closer to action in Iraq. The environmental summit closes in Johannesburg, with world leaders being led home on their leashes by their corporate masters. Sit. Stay. Roll over.
Civilization.
Anunu Awawa and other Nigerian women squat on the runway of an oil development project in their neighbourhood, demanding they hire locals, or they will strip naked. Canada's Senate reccommends legalizing marijuana, because it's less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. Our planet spins it's evolution.

happy birthday tv!
happy birthday to we!
our public broadcaster is 50!
and so far it's still free!...
(at the old cbc!)

Props to the place in space where our people band together on common bandwidth. Seeking cultural identity, national definition, unique truth, and a saturday night hockey game. Where there's singing & dancing, laughing & playing, truth-telling & soul-searching. A Friendly Giant fish in a small pond... Where the Kids in the Hall are rewarded, not scolded... Where hockey has an anthem... Where the National news is Canadian...
Look up, Look way up,
and I'll call Rusty...

Power Puff Poem

Oh My!
Ella's sucking Blossom's brain!
LickLickLick
Pink Power Puff Smarts!
Strawberry sips of she-girl supremacy!
I smell super sweet strawberry!
taste...
Didja chew a chunk of brain ?
My power is so puffed up it's pink!
Where is Blossom ? And where is her brain ?
(Weren't you licking her brain?) Uh-huh...
Yer brain was good!
So I eat it!
Now she can't think!

YES!! I ate your brain!
Hey Psycho Girl! What THIS ?!!?
Then someone comes along and pushes you over
with pink licked brain power!!
We all pickle our parents (know what I mean?)

The birthday fairy waves her wand, and a beautiful amber bird flies circles round your neck. Yellowed drops of time frozen in flight, like the magical moments of your life forever sculpted into your heart. Golden amber feathers float on the chain, like a bird on a wire...
When she bats her eyelashes, her truth ricochets, between two brown pools of wisdom. Enlightenment opens opportunities. Flocks of moments bathe in your depths. Petrified resin photgraphs reflect the light glinting in a mother's eyes, so long ago, now on wing, moving again. Sweet love soars over your throat singing songs silently.

Are we on the Eve of Destruction ?
As people wallow in the misery of 9/11
Are we blind to the terrorism unfolding ?
As "W" polishes Weapons for War
Will the World willingly line up ?
(We all know Tony Blair desperately wants to be a cowboy - but PLEASE! Keep it in the bedroom!)
Can one symbolic "head" of a lonely superpower
Inflict dysfunctional family dynamics on billions of people ?
Are we mere players in a spaghetti western script of prophecy ?
As the long-dead King topples idealistic Liverpool lads from first place with
"A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action."

Vincible.

Exposed flesh. Burnt by the sun. Whipped by the wind. Frozen by the winter.
Soft flesh that gives when pressed. Bleeds when cut. Bruises when hit.
A body can fall from a height and show no external signs of harm, but die from internal injuries.
Exposed emotion. Withered by denial. Scratched by anger. Crushed by hate.
Malleable spirit that ebbs and rises with the pull of the world. Enlarged by confidence. Scorched by jealousy. Grown with love.
The humid wind licks my soul like a warm, soapy wash cloth gently wiping my dirty sins away.
...tangible....intangible....
...vincible....invincible...

After a crash...

I took a first aid course today. Learned my ABC's - Airway, Breathing, Circulation. Discovered the landmark on a ribcage that points to the rescue spot for stopped hearts. I even blew a dummy.
Lately I've been trying to control safety issues in my life. For the first time ever, I've started to wear a helmet when I ride my bike. I agreed to be a fire warden at work. I'm more concerned about how safe my little girl is.
The control freak in me revs high. Cuz so does the world.
(Just keeping up with the jones).

Every Friday the 13th, Bikers of all flavours descend on Port Dover. It's become a sort of mini-Sturgis. A destination for motorized 2-wheel transportation. Strange that bikers - whom we consider wild and reckless - have such an affinity for a regular schedule when it comes to bike events. (Is it so they can be sure to book the time off work? The great middle class secret life of a biker.) But perhaps it's more of an animal homing instinct, - a primitive urge to return to familiar territories. Could it be that the vibrational rhythm felt when riding a motorcycle (especially a Harley) stimulates the limbic brain?

I'm always the one left behind. Others move away. Some grow further. I keep the home fires going. I'm the hub of the wheel, a way for the spokes to keep track of one another. I remain. The earth spins, hurling the planet's surface at huge velocity. But I'm standing still. I anchor. I allow huge ships of thought and action to drift upon an ocean of chaotic possibilities without becoming lost. I hold. I keep back. I protect posteriors from potential pains. I bring up the rear. I allow others to travel huge distances by providing a fixed reference point.

My house is beside Buddha's house. Some days, Buddha leaves his doors open, and Mommy lifts me up to see Buddha, sitting in his living room, all golden and shiny. Buddha's house always smells good. There's lots of nice ladies with no hair who live at Buddha's house too. Buddha leaves food out by his house for the pigeons to eat. We have a bird house too. Sometimes Buddha has a party with drums and music and sometimes even - a lion or a dragon comes to dance with Buddha! They have lots of parades at Buddha's house too. I like to live with Buddha!

My baby girl was about 6 months old, and we were camped on the shore of Lake Superior on our way home from a visit to her Grandpa's hometown. A late summer night sky, full of stars,... a million pebbles was the shore,... the rhythm of powerful waves our soundtrack,... My sister's boyfriend had maps of constellations on his laptop... My sister was cold, and brought a blanket down to the shore... The four of us wrapped up together, our eyes drawn upward, where Northern Lights had begun to dance... Pure enchantment, as my baby became the fifth generation to become part of a Lake Superior night.

One night, I met the grower. She's a friend of my friend, in town for the night, willing to meet a few satisfied customers... The beer hit the table like a flash flood. Jugs disappeared in the first hour. The grower laughed. She let me join her national women's drinking team... We visited the alley to sample the latest harvest several times... The last of us stumbled out... I rode towards home. I think I fell. I awoke with my head in God's lilies, by a big church. Suddenly I felt guilty. In the morning, my wallet was gone.

I must have been strangled in a past life, because I can't stand turtlenecks, - or anything too tight around my neck. (Probably I was hung!) And I'm sure that I drowned in another life, on account of my fear of water. (I see myself a sailor who can't swim, lost in the cold sea.) I burned to death some other time, - you see, I'm always too hot. Yet another existence ended being eaten alive, as oral sex always makes me nervous. There were at least a few lives that ended in disease, for I still have an inviting immune system.

The Lackawanna 6...

6 young Americans appear in court, days after september 11. Buffalo Soldiers - supposedly trained by Al Quada - at a summer camp for terrorists - (was hockey camp full?)
Innocent until proven white... Guilty, first and foremost, of being brown and muslim...
The mayor of Buffalo does damage control... sets up a hospitality tent for the media, and allows free parking for 12 satellite trucks from all over the world. Buffalo is NOT a hotbed for terrorists, remember! - Have some more pizza & some world famous wings.
For a lack of wanting the American Dream, the Lackawanna 6 ignite.

The last day of summer... Humidity persists, windows remain open, fans continue to whir... But the maple tree down the street is turning red. All the camping equipment is put away, and sneakers sit atop the sandals in the hallway by the door. The ancient Celts looked at this time as the end of year, and beginning of a new one. We too, put serious faces on, with an impending winter. (There are far more ants than grasshoppers in these parts). Around here, people ready for hibernation, putting things in order, stocking supplies, readying our nests for the Big Cold.

Ode to My Cat
(Who got hoofed out into a rainstorm for the evening to accommodate a dinner guest allergic to cats.)

How I love my 7-toed wonder!
So much character in a 15-pounder!
Harley purrs loud as any hog.
Thinks she could take on any dog.
Harley's always snappy in her tuxedo.
Too many toes on each of her feet-oh!
She's the pet's union steward
Oi! The grievances I've (mew!) heard!!
But she'll dress up in doll clothes...
Her poop wrinkles up my nose...
She'll live forever I suppose...
Harley, - my sweet kitty-cat-rose!

There was an old man that lived up our street. He'd sit on his front porch with his oxygen tank, and watch the world go by. When I was pregnant, waddling by, walking my dog, he'd gently smile. When I pushed my baby in the stroller, he'd nod and wave. When the baby could walk, I'd chase her, and he'd chuckle, glad to see babies and new trees growing on his street.
One day he died. His funeral procession drove up our street as I sat on my front porch. For the first time, he went by and I watched.

Recipe for Beef Stew

First, know that a cow somewhere gave birth, and her calf, (a vegetarian), ate about a ton of grains & hay during it's life. It was then slaughtered, and it's corpse (or parts thereof) were hung from big hooks in a very cold room.
Next, go to a grocer and buy a little tray of nicely cubed beef.
In your home, brown the meat with some onions in oil. Add several cups of water and simmer for 2 hours. Add some potatoes & carrots & green beans. Use flour & water to thicken. Season. Serve with karma.

In the year zooz
We still sing the blues
So many still can't afford shoes
With such abundance to gain, the majority still tends to lose.

Can we fix it and set it all right?
Must we degrade all that is black and not white?
Do humans always end up in a fight?
Or will we learn when to say good night?

The simplest lesson is to share
But pressed into it, we don't dare
We have much more right here than over there
Are we not evolved enough to even care

You see
We'll be
More free

What a weird night.... Last night, my best friend and I went drinking with intent. As we left my house, we heard a crash. A guy had been hit by a car. He was face down on the road, but breathing. A guy offered his coat to cover him. We yelled to call 911.
"Don't call an ambulance." I hit the pavement too.
"What's your name?"
"John"
"John, tell me where it hurts."
It seems John was too intoxicated to say.
The ambulance came. We went on to the bar, drank beer, and sang karaoke -
"SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG".

So I was a writer for a month - Move over Shakespeare!
Bring on the Giller, the Griffin, the Booker Prizes! (Yeah, right - the only "short list" I'd make is the "short on talent" one!) You do know every word was written in purple ink (-honestly!) But writing is therapeutic, right? Spew your therapy into cyberspace, I always say! The world is my couch (and my play pen!) And pity the fool that happens upon this website, too bored or stoned to click away. Like falling into a pit of virtual wanna-be-heards, whispering fuzz into your ear.
