I have a permanent cold

Well at least it seems that I do

You see every day (especially at school it seems) my nose it blocked, this makes it hard to concentrate and work

I don't know why, and I've tried many things that don't seem to make it better

maybe I'm just allergic to work (it seems especially bad in physics and maths)

On another note I've decided to venture into the world of GUI's (Graphical User Interface's) soon, hopefully this will end well, and hopefully I'll grasp it fairly easily

Then again, Phyton isn't particularly good for GUI's . . .

"Karma police, arrest this man
He talks in maths
He buzzes like a fridge
He's like a detuned radio

Karma police, arrest this girl
she's a nosy one
She betrays your trust
And turns your friends against you

Karma Police, arrest this boy
He betrays his friends
He burns like a fire
And acts like nothing has happened

This is what you get
This is what you get
This is what you get when you mess with us

Karma Police
I've given all I can
It's not enough
I've given all I can
"

Radiohead, what an awesome band (although I did change some lyrics there)

I don't know why people seem to have an obsession (in General) with the iPad

It's a big iPod touch? What's the big deal? It's harder to hold, it's heaver, it's not very robust, and saying it's portable is a bit of a stretch (unless you bring a bag for it)

I mean sure you can read books and newspapers from it, if you don't mind your eyes watering after five minutes reading

And this wasn't even the original tablets, there were a lot around before this

Maybe people are just buying it because everyone else is too 0_o

Citrix isn't working again

Isn't this great

I need to finish my Physics coursework before 5am tommorow and the webpage is stuck loading, I've tried refreshing it, clicking on the link again, and all the other (few) things I can do to try and make it work

It just sits there, loading, like it has been for the past ten minutes, I can't click on the text entries either, so I can't log in

And if I can't log in, I can't finish it, unless I start again from scratch which would take an extra hours work

How I hate the Schools IT

This physics presentation is annoying me

I can't find very much about what FCC (Face Centered Cubic) fully means, I can't find information about how 2024-T3 (An aluminium alloy) is manufactured, or anything about it's molecular structure (which is kind of essential to the whole presentation)

Even wikipedia's article's were extremely short, and if it's not on wikipedia where is it 0_o

I've also tried every search engine known to man (well ok, I only tried four, Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yauba) All to no avail

And citrix is on the blink again (although I've found it works better in stupid IE)

It seems every other website I visit is OBSESSED with rounded corners

I know it's exiting that you can round corners with the new CSS3 'border-radius' attribute but you can seriously over do things

Take youtube as an example, button, and link seems to be rounded (there are a lot)

It should be noted however that these effects do not work in IE, as it's standards support is pathetic, so if your viewing youtube in IE all the links buttons etc. will be square (in my opinion they actually look better this way) regardless I hate IE

The computing trip today was actually really good

The talks were interesting, I learnt a lot, there was free food, the journey was entertaining (the minibus hit a fence) and we got to play a load of cool demo's

Including this awesome touchscreen table, although everyone was trying to use it at once and this one guy kept enlarging images to be as large as the entire screen so no on else could try it until he resized it . . .

I only have one regret; I didn't put in a question asking why IE sucks (the whole thing was run by microsoft)

The Physics presentation today went REALLY WELL, trust me, I use caps lock sparingly

I thought I'd be really nervous and stutter loads etc. up on the stage, but I think I did really well, I didn't even need to read the notes that'd I'd prepared

I think it helped that I only did it in front of 4 people, 3 of whom I know

The weird thing was that Mr Hardingham looked really worried through all of the 3 presentations, but at the end he said that we all did really well and all got at least 9/10 out of 10

People walk in a variety of different ways

Just look at a few people in the street, you'll see what I mean

Some people walk with a jump in their step, others seem to sway from side to side as they walk, some walk with their feet pointing outwards (although I'm not sure how, it seems impossible to me)

There are also people who walk permanently on their toes (which must be terrible for their backs) and those who look as if they expect a piano to fall on them with every step they make

I wonder which group I fit into . . .

Some interesting (and surprising) questions that came up in a quiz (of sorts) today at school:

Which Company saved apple from bankruptcy with a large business deal in the late 1990s?
Answer: Microsoft

What is the capital of Australia?
Answer: Canberra (I know, not sydney!)

Where in Scotland is Dunkirk?
Answer: It's not in Scotland it's in France

How many bits in a nibble
Answer: 4

What percentage of searches are run per day using Google?
Answer: Around 65%

Ah the fun that we have during lunchtimes

I didn't accomplish anything today

Which is what I set out to do, yesterday I told myself I'd lie in (although I never imagined I'd get up at 12:30) then watch TV, play video games etc. etc.

It's been the same for the last few Saturdays, I burn myself out through the week, staying up till midnight to meet deadlines, then I crash out on Saturday to recharge

I don't think this is a good habit to be getting into

In fact writing these 100 words is probably the most productive thing I've done today

At least only one more week till the holidays

Have you ever been in a position when your overwhelmed with emotions ( is that even the right your / you're? )

When you don't know what is what, and you don't know what to feel, how to think / perceive things, there are many different ways of perceiving / analyzing things

too many /'sss

Anyway I'm sure it's just teenage angst and I'll be fine come morning

But seriously Why?

Anyway enough of my ramblings (you must think I'm slightly strange judging on this post, honestly more of them are pretty ordinary)

now to go to sleep, let's hope I'll be better by morning

Dragons are interesting

How did the myth originate?

Very few things are pure innovation, most if not all scientific advances are inspired by nature, adapted, changed slightly with sprinkles of pure innovation

the same is true of dragons, I doubt this myth was pure innovation, pure inventiveness, it had to come from somewhere

But where

Maybe someone walking home from the pub (or inn in those days) saw a lizard and perceived it to be something much larger in the dark

Maybe some crazy king conjured up the idea and nobody had the courage to say he was wrong

Maybe . . .

They were like magnets, they either connected or repelled each other,

Have you ever tried making points of a strong magnet meet when they're pointing North - North, or South - South, it's pretty difficult

Today though they were connecting, for the first time, in well . . . a long time, he'd almost forgotten what they used to share together

Then in an instant the pole reversed, and once again they were repelling each other

strange how quickly things change

the butterfly effect is an interesting phenomenon, it came up today at school, although I have read up on it before

I think I might read up on it again

I can't wait for Saturday

Although we may not even be at school tomorrow, it's been snowing a bit and it looks like it might snow more tonight

Also Yahoo are closing Delicious.com and Yahoo! Buzz, which is making me very angry, I realise I must be one of few techie people who still use Yahoo but this has seriously made me think about using some other service . . . Although it can't be a google service, or a microsoft service, which leaves a few pitiful things for me to choose from, why do this to me yahoo why????

Colour scheme, buttons, content delivery network, Logo, Blog? Buttons vertical or horizontal? Gradient or no gradient? Centered or stretched? which editor to use, must be open source

Client side processing or server side processing? Yahoo or Google ads? Display or Text, Search functionality? Microsoft or google to provide it?

Must ensure IE compatibility has habit of breaking good code, must check using W3C HTML & CSS checker, to ensure code follows guidelines

CSS 3 or CSS 2? Compatibility for all, or greater features for few, at greater ease for me? Same goes for HTML 5?

What I think of when designing websites

It's snowing again!

That line is getting a bit boring now, especially after you've seen snow every day for a couple of weeks

Don't get me wrong, I love snow, but only every now and then, and only especially when it might cause us to have a day of school (which hasn't happened yet)

The Social Network is also a good movie, although unfortunately I've read that a lot of it is fiction,

And I've also decided to have another bash at PHP and Javascript (maybe ajax too) over this two week holiday, I can't imagine it's too different to python :-/

like it's seen a ghost.
I guess it's seen the sparks a-flowin,

Hey man, slow down, slow down,

Sometimes I get overcharged,
that's when you see sparks.
They ask me where the hell I'm going?
At a 1000 feet per second,

hey man, slow down, slow down,
idiot, slow down, slow down.

Hey man, slow down, slow down,

3rd day into the holidays and so far I've accomplished nothing

I think the fact that I had no homework to do really set in on day one, which I spent playing a lot of video games, day two was pretty similar, and I actually did do some things today, so judging by that pattern hopefully I'll get more productive as the holiday goes on

That said it might not happen

On another note there is still a LOT of snow here, and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere soon, it would have to happen just after school ended too . . .

The cloud

Two words, just two, two very important words

The potential is great, and there's not just desire from a user perspective but from a developers perspective too;

Users, imagine if you could access all of your files everywhere just by being logged into a specific account

And developers, imagine if you no longer had to port applications to the three major OSes (Windows, Mac and Linux) but just wrote one version of the application that worked across all operating systems less time porting and more time developing awesome features

I'm not sure if I like it though

I enjoy Techcrunch, even if some of their blog posts are stupid and biased (they really hate Yahoo and really love Apple)

I mean sure MG Devotes every other post to preaching that Apple is THE BEST but those posts are sometimes the funniest (especially the comment section)

Although Michael Arrington is very annoying, especially his posts about Yahoo and Carol Bartz, I think he's just holding a grudge on her because she swore at him in an interview, but he deserved it, it seemed he swore at her every other sentence

And I could never figure out why they sold to Aol.

I remember at the start of the holiday I made a pledge to myself that I would do maths work, get ahead (if possible) and re-do a ton of old topic reviews

Thus far I haven't done any maths, because honestly I really can't be bothered, I know maths is important but it can also be immensely boring and sometimes it feels irrelevant

Although I'm pretty sure that towards the holidays end I'll likely post 100 words about how I'm so behind on maths and how it's really annoying etc. etc.

let's hope that that doesn't happen

Learning JavaScript

Is surprisingly easy, now that I know a bit of Phython the knowledge is transferrable between the two languages, although they do things in subtly different ways, and even thought they're both case sensetive that still sometimes throws me off

Anyway enough of JavaScript

Tommorow is Christmas Day, and whilst my family doesn't celebrate it we still get together (it's one of the few days everyone has off) it'll probably be a day to remember and I wish there were more like it, we don't get together as a family as much as I'd like us to.

Lyrics websites really annoy me

Most of the popular ones are riddled with annoying pop up ads, stupid people using the comment system, and they don't allow you to highlight the lyrics, meaning that you can't paste them

There are are of course less popular ones with no pop up ads people posting serious comments, and they also allow you to copy the lyrics!!!! Amazing. unfortunately they don't have the same song selection as the bigger sites

And if you've read this far I'm sorry that this post has been so amazingly boring, I'm really running out of things to write

Will web-designers get more specialized roles in the future?

Highly likely

It's difficult to know how to code HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP (or equavalent) and MYSQL (or equavalent) and that's just to set up a website with a log in system and some dynamic effects

I mean sure CSS3 goes a long way to eliminating the need to know JavaScript to create some dynamic effects but it's going to take a LONG time before IE supports CSS3, and until that happens CSS3 won't make it to the masses, why Microsoft?

Honestly I could go on all day like this

I just realised how much I used to love U2

I was obsessed with them for about a year and have almost all of their albums (I think I'm missing, war, boy, the Joshua tree and Pop) and I actually own the albums myself, brought with my own money, which shows how much I must have liked them at the time

I got a bit bored with them though and got into Radiohead / Muse it looks like I might go full circle again soon

Or I could end up getting fixated on another band

For those of you who don't know me I don't use Google (actually I really hate Google as a company but I'll probably talk about that in a later post) instead I usually use a search engine called Yauba, Sometimes Yahoo and Bing too, all three are quite good although Yauba is my favourite

It's innovative, it usually finds what I want, and it kind of makes me more personal (I suppose) I kind of stick out from the crowd

Although it's had a lot of down time recently, I really hope they aren't closing it down, I'd have to switch to Blekko or something

Maths

Isn't as hard as I thought it was

My uncle has been helping me through my maths topic reviews, and going through them I've made a LOT of simple mistakes, putting a plus instead of a minus, forgetting to put the square onto the X or other stupid things

He suggested it might be because I'm doing them in a rush, which I know myself is right, I always do the topic reviews at the last minute (which I promised myself I wouldn't)

This is a habit I really need to break

If I did new years resolutions I make that one

I've finally done it, finished another month of 100 words

I'm not quite sure how I've done it, and some of my posts are really bad (the last four days serve as the perfect example) but I've managed to finish it!

I doubt I'll attempt next month though (although I doubt this will annoy my 0 readers) I think I need to recharge my creativity for a month or two before I embark on another month

As for everything else; school on Tuesday, maths first period, I really hope we don't have a test, I have revised, just not enough
