Picking up his glasses with his other hand and, holding one arm started swinging them around, faster and faster, until he slammed his free hand down hard on the table and stopped. We both stared down as water slopped from the two drinking glasses. ‘There’s that bloody word again – if.’ He sighed. ‘If it has to be done today, then it must. Can’t we plan things better next time?
